Minutes of the March 25, 2014 Meeting

 

The meeting was held in the Parish hall and started at 7:12.  There were 38 souls present.

Officer Mike Keaney gave his police report.   There were 79 documented incidents of which 31 were of a domestic nature.  There were 6 arrests.  He mentioned that effective March 27, Tedeschi’s would cut back their operating hours, closing from Midnight to 6:00 am, and may come back at a later date to change their hours again.  The current changes apply to both the Field’s Corner and Ashmont locations.

Candace Gartley, the new Executive Director of the All Dorchester Sports League spoke about  the league and all of its activities.  She had been Chief of Staff at the CodmanHealthCenter before taking this position.  Her office is in the little brick building in the baseball field in Field’s Corner.  Her goals include having a fitness trainer on duty all year round  and providing nutrition classes.  The plans to ramp up baseball and T-ball, opening May 3.  A $275 million upgrade of both baseball fields is planned for the fall of 2014.  Movies in the part will begin this summer and hopefully be able to stream live Red Sox games.  More information is available at alldorchestersports.org.

Bob Credle, Manager of Urban Edge Housing Corp spoke about foreclosure prevention and student loan repayments, and how his organization can assist with problems people are having with their payments.  His phone number is 617-989-9320.

Ayanna Pressley spoke about some of the projects she is working on including education initiatives and helping small businesses.  She had just arrived from Yappy Hour at The Modern Dog Boston on Dorchester Ave. where she was promoting the new small business that opened late last year.

Nominations were opened for officers for the 2014-2015 year.  Camilla Duffy nominated the current slate of officers:

President:  Doug Hurley, Vice President: Mike Folan [2nd position vacant this year], Secretary:  Doug Shaheen, and Treasurer:  Jim Rodenmacher.  Nobody volunteered to fill the second VP position. 

Doug Hurley gave an update on the Tedeschi’s open hours issue at both the 1420 and 1886 Dorchester Avenue locations.  He reiterated what Officer Keaney reported earlier in the meeting.  Tedeschi’s is reassessing their hours and will revisit it at a later date.  

The meeting was adjourned 8:37 p.m.
